MINE READY CERTIFICATION
Equipment North is an authorized Mine Ready certification partner.

What does “Mine Ready” mean?
When something is “Mine Ready”-certified, it means that equipment meets all safety standards as specified by applicable legislative bodies and your mine site.
Canadian Mining Regulations set out a baseline for safety requirements that all mobile equipment operating on mine sites and in underground mines must follow. We recognize that this are just a baseline, and many mining companies implement requirements above and beyond those specified by Canadian Mining Regulations, and in some cases these requirements may differ from site to site even within an organization. We work with mining companies and contractors to clearly define these requirements and ensure that mobile equipment coming to site meets them prior to delivery.
Why is “Mine Ready” important?
We have been working in the Canadian mining industry for over 35 years, in many capacities: as an equipment dealer, service provider, manufacturer and certification body. In working with mining companies and contractors from all over the country, we have seen the amount of time and effort spent in trying to communicate and coordinate equipment safety specifications with mobile equipment OEMs and suppliers. Poor communication results in equipment arriving on site that does not meet site requirements, which in turn results in frustration, down time and unplanned expenses. We address by operating as a third party that collects safety requirements. Our mandate is to minimize these issues by working between mining companies and equipment suppliers to ensure any equipment arriving on site meets all safety requirements prior to delivery.
How does “Mine Ready” work?
At the start of a project or contract, we will work your team to develop a complete commissioning package for your site. In some cases, this is as simple as referring to the Canadian Mining Regulations and applicable ANSI standards. In other cases, this may require working with Mine Managers, Mobile Superintendents, End Users and in some cases OEMs to determine safety requirements. This may include, among other things:
- Fire suppression
- ABA brake testing
- Brake test procedures
- Ramp testing
- Identification and marking of pinch points
- Identification and marking of 3-point contacts
- Stability testing
- Emissions testing
- Labelling
- Verification of key performance metrics
- Equipment identification
- Speed tests
- Multi-piece rim certification
- Non-destructive testing on structural components
Once the commissioning package has been developed and approved by stakeholders in the project we will work with the equipment manufacturers and/or suppliers to arrange for equipment testing. Depending on the nature of the testing and validation required, this may be performed at one of our locations or at an OEM facility.
Our technicians and technical staff will perform all tests and inspections to confirm that the equipment meets all commissioning requirements as specified in contract documents. We wil communicate the results to both the OEM/supplier as well as the company undertaking the “Mine Ready” assessment, and work to address any deficiencies. We have extensive experience preparing equipment for operating on mine sites, so in some cases, we may be able to perform the necessary modifications to correct deficiencies. In other cases, modifications may have to be performed by the equipment supplier, either at our location or at another facility of their choosing. In cases where there is disagreement between the mine and the equipment supplier, we can participate in discussions between parties to help determine an acceptable resolution. From start to finish, our goal is to ensure equipment comes to mine site ready to work.
How does “Mine Ready” work?
When all inspections have been conducted, all tests have been performed, and the machine has been found to meet all requirements specified in the applicable contract, we will certify it as “Mine Ready”. At this point, we will provide:
- A detailed commissioning package, showing the results of all inspections and tests.
- Complete commissioning forms and documents identified at the start of the contract required to put the equipment into operation at the mine site.
- Where applicable, a complete T1 Diesel Equipment Notification form specific to your jurisdiction of operation.
- A dated “Mine Ready” certificate, identifying the make, model and serial number of the equipment.
- QR code decals for your machine that provide instant access to certification documents.
- All certification documents are hosted indefinitely on our online servers.
How long is a “Mine Ready”
certification valid?
This varies according to company policy. There is no legal requirement stating that a machine must be re-certified as “Mine Ready” after a certain time period has elapsed. That being said, we all know that the mining environment is very tough on even purpose-built machines, and we recommend that companies assign an mandatory inspection interval to all mobile equipment. We can work with you to determine an appropriate certification cycle for your equipment and application.
